Business email

Why email is a security service as much as a productivity one

A business email platform does two jobs. The first is obvious: every person has a reliable address on your domain, mail arrives, calendars share, and the whole thing works on a phone. Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace both do that well, and CamTech sets up and administers both, along with Intermedia, GoDaddy 365 and private servers for businesses that need them.

The second job is the one that gets a business into trouble. Email is how fake invoices arrive, how a “CEO” asks for gift cards, how a vendor’s compromised account sends you new bank details. Filtering removes the crude attempts. Account-takeover defence goes further: it learns the language your company uses, who normally receives invoices and payment orders, and flags a message that breaks the pattern even when it comes from a real address.

Migrations are where most businesses meet CamTech on this service. Moving a company from an old host to Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace sounds simple and rarely is: mailboxes, archives, calendars, shared contacts, mobile devices and a DNS cutover all have to land at once. CamTech plans the move, runs it outside working hours where possible, and makes sure nobody loses a message.

After the move

Email that stays fixed

Once email is set up, CamTech keeps administering it: new starters and leavers, shared mailboxes, mobile device setup, the licence renewals nobody remembers, and the security settings that drift when nobody is watching. Email support is part of tech support, so one call covers it.

If you are looking for a customised IT plan rather than a single email project, say so. Email is usually the first thing a new managed client wants fixed, and the easiest to get right.

What to expect

What an email project looks like

Most email work at CamTech falls into one of three jobs. The first is a clean setup for a business that has been running on free accounts or a web host’s bundled mailbox: a proper domain, Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace licences, mobile devices configured, and the authentication records that keep your mail out of other people’s spam folders.

The second is a migration. A company outgrows its old platform, or the platform is being retired, and every mailbox, archive, calendar and shared contact list has to arrive intact on the new one. CamTech plans the cutover for a quiet evening or a weekend, moves the data in stages, and keeps the old platform alive until every user has confirmed the new one is complete. Nobody loses a message, and nobody loses a morning.

The third is cleanup after an incident: a mailbox that was taken over, a domain being spoofed to send fake invoices to your customers, or a flood of phishing that the old filter waved through. That work overlaps with cybersecurity, and the two services are often delivered together.

Email questions

Either works well for a business. The choice usually follows the tools your staff already know: Outlook and the Office apps point to Microsoft 365, a Gmail-first team points to Google Workspace. CamTech supports both and will recommend one during the assessment.

No. Mailboxes, archives, calendars and contacts are moved intact, and the old platform is kept until everything is verified on the new one.

Usually because the domain is missing the authentication records (SPF, DKIM and DMARC) that receiving servers check. CamTech configures them as part of any email setup.

Filtering stops most of them, and account-takeover defence flags the convincing ones by learning who normally sends you invoices and how. Staff training covers the rest.
