Frequently asked
Frequently Asked Questions
What business owners and office managers ask before they call, answered plainly.
Getting started
What is a managed services provider?
A managed services provider, or MSP, takes ongoing responsibility for a business’s technology instead of fixing one thing at a time. CamTech monitors your servers and workstations, manages your security tools, runs the help desk, keeps backups working and plans upgrades, for a predictable monthly fee.
How much does IT support cost?
It depends on how many people and devices you have and which level of support you choose. Hourly support is billed for time used. Block-hour plans buy a set number of hours each month at a lower rate. Fully managed plans cover everything for a flat monthly fee. The assessment that follows the first consultation gives you a written figure before you commit.
Do I have to sign a contract?
Not for hourly support. Block-hour and managed plans run month to month on a service agreement, and the terms are in writing before anything starts.
How small a business will you work with?
CamTech supports businesses from a handful of people up to a few hundred. If you have one office and five computers, hourly or block-hour support usually fits. If you have fifty people and a server, a managed plan usually costs less than the problems it prevents.
What happens in the first consultation?
We learn your business, how many people you have, what systems you cannot work without, and what your current IT arrangement looks like. It takes about an hour, by phone or at your office, and it is free.
How long does it take to switch IT providers?
Onboarding a small office usually takes a few days once the assessment is done; larger networks are phased over a few weeks. CamTech collects documentation and passwords from the old provider where it can, and rebuilds what is missing. Nothing is switched off until its replacement is working.
What industries do you work with?
Medical and dental practices, construction companies, sales organisations, professional firms, retailers and manufacturers, among others. The three testimonials on this site come from a skin care practice, a sales company and a building contractor.
Support and response
How fast do you respond?
The help desk is staffed during business hours and most requests are picked up within the same call or email. For sites outside the Tulsa metro, CamTech’s national help desk partnership can dispatch an onsite engineer in as little as four hours to almost anywhere in the United States.
Do you come on site, or is everything remote?
Both. Most day-to-day issues are fixed remotely through a secure remote support session, which is faster for everyone. Hardware, network and new-office work happens on site. Clients in the Tulsa metro see our engineers regularly.
Do you support Mac as well as Windows?
Yes. Tech support covers Windows and Mac servers and workstations, and the monitoring, security and backup tools we use run on both.
What is the difference between hourly, block-hour and managed support?
Hourly support means you call when something breaks and pay for the time it takes. A monthly block-hour plan buys a set number of hours at a predictable rate, which suits steady needs. A fully managed plan makes CamTech your IT department: monitoring, maintenance and support are all included for one monthly fee.
Can you work with our existing IT person?
Yes. CamTech often supports an in-house administrator, covering after-hours monitoring, security tooling and project work they do not have capacity for.
What is included in a managed plan?
Monitoring of servers and workstations, patching, endpoint security, email filtering, backup management, the help desk for your staff, and regular reporting. Hardware and licences are quoted separately so the monthly fee stays predictable.
Do you offer after-hours support?
The help desk runs during business hours. Managed clients have monitored systems around the clock, so most problems are caught and handled before anyone arrives in the morning. Ask about after-hours arrangements during the consultation if your business runs outside 8 to 5.
Security
Does a small business really need cybersecurity?
Yes. Attackers automate their work, so a small business with an unpatched server or a weak email filter is as likely a target as a large one, and less likely to recover. CamTech layers DNS filtering, antivirus, firewall management, email filtering and dark web monitoring so that no single failure lets an attacker through.
What is dark web monitoring?
A service that watches for your company’s domain and email addresses turning up in stolen credential dumps on criminal forums. When one appears, you find out and can reset the password before it is used against you.
Do you train staff on phishing?
Yes. CamTech runs phishing simulations across the workforce and uses the results to educate people about what a suspicious email looks like. Most breaches start with a click, so this is one of the cheapest defences there is.
What is a next-generation firewall?
A firewall that inspects traffic by application and content rather than only by port and protocol, and can block threats a traditional firewall would wave through. CamTech is a SonicWall partner and installs and manages them for clients.
Do you do penetration testing?
Yes. CamTech runs penetration tests and vulnerability scans of client networks and reports what was found with recommendations for fixing it.
Email, backups and data
Which email platforms do you support?
Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Intermedia, GoDaddy 365 and private email servers. CamTech sets email up, migrates it from an old platform, and protects it with filtering and account-takeover defences.
How often are backups taken?
Daily at a minimum, with both image backups of whole systems and file-level data backups, stored locally and off site. The schedule is set per client during onboarding.
How do I know my backups actually work?
Because they are tested. A backup that has never been restored is a hope, not a plan, so CamTech performs test restores and monitors every backup job for failures.
What is the difference between backup and disaster recovery?
A backup is a copy of your data. Disaster recovery is the plan for getting your business working again after something goes wrong: which systems come back first, where they run, who does what, and how long it takes. You need both.
Cloud or on-premises storage?
Usually a mix. CamTech designs storage around how your business works and what it can afford, from cloud storage to local servers and drives, and always with an off-site backup copy.
Healthcare and compliance
Does CamTech work with medical practices?
Yes. CamTech provides HIPAA-compliant IT services for clinics and any organisation that transmits health information electronically, including threat analysis, malware protection, login monitoring and the security reports an audit asks for.
Will you help with our HIPAA audit?
CamTech handles the technical safeguards side: securing the network, monitoring critical infrastructure and producing security reports. Your compliance officer or consultant handles policy. The two fit together.
Do you sign a business associate agreement?
Ask us during the consultation. Any IT provider that handles systems holding protected health information should be prepared to discuss one.
